Working notebook · systems administration student

AdriàAutonell

I’m studying Network Systems Administration (ASIX, a two-year higher vocational degree) at Escorial Vic and work as a developer with Flutter and Java at Sivicom Engineering. At Barcelona Drone Center I built an app to control and monitor drones in real time, linked to XPRIZE Wildfire.

“I learn by doing: first I want to understand how something works, then I build it.”

01 — About

The person behind the code

I’m Adrià. I live in Castellterçol, near Barcelona, and I’m studying Network Systems Administration (ASIX) at Escorial Vic. Before that I completed the intermediate vocational degree in Microcomputer Systems and Networks (SMX) at Institut Lliçà d’Amunt.

As a kid I didn’t understand how everything around me worked, and I wanted to learn how the whole system fitted together.

I started with my SMX work placement as an IT technician at Institut Escola Castellterçol: maintaining computers, the network and software. Then I worked independently at Gestión Integrada, rolling out Microsoft Dynamics NAV with automated reports and web forms.

At Barcelona Drone Center, from June 2025 to January 2026, I built on my own an app to control and monitor drones in real time, as part of a project linked to XPRIZE Wildfire. We had less than four months to get it ready.

Since January 2026 I’ve been working at Sivicom Engineering: Flutter on the frontend, Java on the backend, SQL databases and Linux systems.

What I enjoy most is software development and server administration. I like learning by doing and understanding how technologies work under the hood.

When I get stuck, I stop to think through alternatives and look for reliable sources. If that isn’t enough, I ask my seniors for help: the goal is to find the best solution and learn from it.

Over the coming months I want to prepare to study Computer Engineering at university, without leaving systems administration and infrastructure behind.

Where I am with each thing

No made-up percentages. Each thing is where it is: what I’ve done, what I use, what I’m practising and where I want to go.

05 — Process

How I work

I don’t just write code: I try to understand the problem and improve the result. Here’s how it went with this site.

  1. 01

    Idea

Understand what the project has to achieve and who it’s for.

On this site: Let anyone see within minutes who I am, what I’ve done and how I work.

  2. 02

    Research

Gather real information before deciding anything.

On this site: Check every fact before publishing it: dates, contests and the official name of XPRIZE Wildfire.

  3. 03

    Design

    Compare options before picking one.

On this site: Three visual directions; I chose the “site notebook”.

  4. 04

    Build

Build with reusable pieces and data kept apart from design.

On this site: React + TypeScript, content in src/data, prerendered HTML.

  5. 05

    Testing

Check it in a real browser, not just mine.

On this site: Playwright at 375, 768 and 1440 px: links, keyboard, console and Lighthouse.

  6. 06

    Improve

Measure, fix and keep a record.

On this site: Every change goes into the changelog on this very page.

07 — Changelog

Work in progress

This site isn’t finished, and I’m not hiding it. Here I note what changes and why.

Changelog

  1. v1.0.0

    • First public release at adria-autonell.com, in Catalan, Spanish and English.
    • Career path, programming contests and the Barcelona Drone Center drone-control project.
    • A section index that tracks where you are, and the “Show the infrastructure” mode.

Mistakes that taught me something

  • The first automatic deploy failed

I connected Cloudflare to GitHub assuming automatic deploys would just work. They didn’t: the project had no configuration of its own, the tool tried to guess one and the build failed. It taught me to understand what happens between a push and the live site, and that deployment config belongs in the repository, not in whatever the tool assumes.
